Virality + Good Business Plan
For any Web 2.0 product to be successful, it needs
- to know how to spread virally and
- have a good business plan
Recently, a friend of mine sent me an invite to Groupcard.com for signing a birthday card for a common friend of ours. I was pleasantly surprised by the way Groupcard had taken care of these two things. Till date I had seen a number of e-card sites and quite a few sites that send you brithday/anniversary alerts. But Groupcard is a mix of both in the best possible way.
The idea is very simple – You create a e-Card and invite all your friends to sign on it. All of us must have done this a number of times by buying a big Hallmark or Archies card and signing it off with cool messages and good wishes. Just imagine doing that online and the best part is you can not only sign the card, but attach audio, images etc and give it a very personal touch
Virality: Groupcard helps spread the word by asking you to invite all your friends to sign the card. They already have your email id now. Once you visit the site to sign the card, they auto create an account converting you into a registered user. This way not just you, but all your friends are now registered users and Groupcard will remind you on their birthdays (they also have a birthday alert facebook app).
Business Plan: With online card comes the option to print them out. Groupcard provides you with some cool optoins – instant PDF format or a hard copy by mail in the form of Post Card, Wall Poster or Flip Book
Anyways, what I found interesting was that these guys took a very simple idea and converted it into a great product.
